In addition to flexibility, torsional resistance is a critical factor in the durability and safety of nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments. This study evaluated how innovative manufacturing and heat-treatment processes affect the ability of new rotary files, such as EdgeOnyx, to withstand torsional stress before fracturing. The researchers found that advanced manufacturing techniques can improve a file’s resistance to torsional failure, helping instruments tolerate the forces encountered when a file tip binds within the canal while the shank continues to rotate. Enhanced torsional resistance may reduce the risk of instrument separation, increase clinician confidence during challenging cases, and contribute to more predictable endodontic outcomes. Together with improved flexibility, these advancements demonstrate how modern NiTi metallurgy continues to optimize both the safety and performance of contemporary rotary file systems.
